Supply chains for zero emission fuels are not available at most locations – yet. This means we will use what’s available in combinations conventional fuels – hybrids. The use of hybrid solutions is already available and gives us the opportunity to meet current demand using technology suitable for upgrades later when the infrastructure for various energy carriers is even more advanced.

Clean energy carriers
The ongoing energy transition from conventional fossil energy carries to clean energy carriers, results in a global effort to innovate and develop new alternatives.
Topeka is looking into various fuels. We have projects and concepts for CO2 neutral bio and e-fuels, as well as non-emitting CO2 fuels like hydrogen, ammonia, and battery electric.
Zero emission technology
Introducing new energy carriers as fuel is only possible when technical solutions for bunkering, storage and power generating is available.
Currently there is wide R&D work ongoing across the globe to develop and approve new solutions. In development of green shipping projects, the Norwegian maritime cluster is leading in front.
Topeka is involved in and supporting developing hydrogen solutions both for compressed and liquid hydrogen, in addition to ammonia, methanol, LOHC, and battery. The power generation is from power cells or combustion engines where Topeka is in close dialog with the globally leading manufacturers.
Topeka is not a technology provider, our ambition is to cooperate with front running suppliers, supporting and challenge them to develop best possible solutions for our vessels.
Digital innovations
To meet and solve the climate challenge, decarbonisation and digitalisation needs to go hand in hand.
New energy carriers increase the complexity and introduce new safety issues that need to be solved to secure the energy transition. Zero emission vessels are conceptually new types of vessels, meaning they are of great importance to design and equipment as the maritime industry transitions into digital opportunities and further vessel development.
